OVC Project Director
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Jhpiego seeks Project Director to lead efforts for anticipated USAID funded project in Nigeria. The anticipated 5-year project will focus on the delivery of care and support services for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. This includes providing in country support for coordination and scale up of HIV activities, mobilizing and supporting community-based responses that identify, locate and protect OVC and addressing gender dimensions of adolescent girl OVC to HIV/AIDS. Final solicitation for this project has not yet been released.
Responsibilities:
- Provide programmatic leadership and strategic direction to ensure technical and financial integrity of the project and to achieve project goals, objectives and targets
- Facilitate overall relationship between Jhpiego, USAID, consortium partners, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation
- Lead advocacy efforts with federal and state Governments on OVC service delivery issues
- Facilitate the development of innovative program approaches and interventions
- Identify new intervention areas and facilitate active engagement
- Cultivate strategic relationships and alliances with USAID and key stakeholders in country to maximize resources and avoid duplication of efforts
- Lead annual work planning process in close collaboration with USAID and key stakeholders, project team and project partners
- Oversee project implementation and reporting of project activities to USAID
- Mentor, support, supervise and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts in concert with project goals
- Provide technical oversight and assistance to program managers and consultants
- Provide guidance to subcontractors and sub-grantees and coordinate activities with other agencies involved in the project
- Provide leadership for the documentation and dissemination of lessons learned during project implementation
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Advanced degree in public health or related field with 10+ years experience managing USAID funded public health programs; experience managing OVC programs preferred
- Experience working in Nigeria with established relationships at senior level in the Federal and State Ministries of Health and of Women’s Affairs
- Demonstrated knowledge of Orphans and Vulnerable Children, HIV/AIDS, and contextual issues related to gender, stigma and discrimination
- Experience establishing and/or managing a field office for an international health program
- Proven leadership and management skills
- First-hand experience in the following areas: policy and advocacy, public private partnership, community-directed program interventions, institutional capacity building, system strengthening including health provider training, performance improvement and supervision
- Ability to provide technical leadership to develop innovative country programs
- Demonstrated ability to analyze technical problems/issues that impede efforts, develop technical solutions and ability to assist in the design of operational research that could yield appropriate solution
- In-depth knowledge of policies and reporting requirements for USAID and other U.S. donor agencies
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
- Excellent skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
- Excellent verbal, written communications and presentation skills
- Fluent English language skills; knowledge of local languages preferred
