Male Circumcision Technical Advisor

Overview:
The Male Circumcision (MC) Technical Advisor will provide practical, operational, technical, programmatic and clinical direction for MC program. This includes ensuring that sufficient health care providers are trained in order to rapidly scale up quality MC services in Botswana. Technical Advisor is also responsible for ensuring that project services—including public, private, NGO and mobile/outreach services—are provided that are consistent with internationally recognized quality standards and ensure consistent application of evidence-based practices. Jhpiego will focus strategically on neo-natal MC activities
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the MOH and PEPFAR partners, implement strategy to promote training of sufficient numbers of healthcare providers in order to scale up MC services in Botswana
- Collaborate with MOH to develop comprehensive national Safe MC Guidelines and protocols
- Implement innovative approaches to recruit and retain MC providers in Botswana
- Develop and Implement a quality assurance system that ensures that MC services provided under this project meet internationally recognized standards of quality
- Responsible for maintaining relationship between the Government of Botswana, CDC, and other PEPFAR partners ensuring smooth implementation and that program activities are moving forward consistent with the Safe MC Strategy
- Provide technical oversight for the implementation of Jhpiego’s MC program
- Manage and assist in training programs as appropriate including the development of behavioral objectives, modes of instructional methodologies, selection of audiovisual materials, and tools for monitoring and evaluation
- Manage monitoring and evaluation of activities to ensure PEPFAR country targets are met
- Understand quality assurance/quality improvement approaches
- Oversee quality assurance/quality improvement approaches
- Supervise Technical Officer and other staff as needed
- Work efficiently and diplomatically in leading clinical team
- Work effectively with the public, private and NGO sectors
- Carry out essential MC functions in absence of Country Director, including represent Jhpiego to donors and partners
- Contribute to annual work-planning, implementation and training plans, quarterly reports and other project deliverables in close collaboration with the project team and CDC
- Coordinate and/or represent the project team in professional circles through meetings, conferences, and presentations
- Travel up to 40% nationally and internationally
Qualifications and Requirements
- MD or equivalent degree, currently licensed to practice
- 7+ years’ experience as a trainer
- Demonstrated MC knowledge and experience
- Experience supervising and mentoring staff
- 5+ years of HIV/AIDS program experience
- Fluent in both English and Setswana
- Computer literacy; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Internet
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in public health or related discipline
- Experience living and working in Botswana
- Knowledge of USG funding systems and requirements
- Previous experience in working with an international organization
